SPORTS IN SCHOOLS

Our work in schools focuses on providing students with the chance to experience and enjoy different types of activities at whatever level is right for them and maximising the impact that PE and sport can have in increasing their achievement and attainment while helping schools meet government targets.

Our staffing ratios for children aged under 8 years old is one member of staff to every 10 children. Courses can be run over a period specified by the school with the minimum contact being 8 weeks for PPA, extended day and lunchtime sessions.

All our coaching is carried out in recognised education establishments. This ensures we utilise the best facilities available and adhere to a high standard of Health and Safety regulations.

We will set up a short meeting with you to go through your requirements and our plans. From this detailed meeting we can then arrange the first session, pass over qualification copies and emergency contact details of all staff that will be involved in your school.

If you would like our coaches to meet your staff or the pupils days before the first session this can also be arranged as we have found that breaking down barriers is key rather than surprising teachers and pupils with a new face amongst the team.

By the time of the first session your HR Sports Academy coaches will know which years they are going to teach for that day, how and where to sign in, emergency procedures for your school, what they are teaching for that session and where. At the end of the session all equipment is cleared away and stored in the correct location and all pupils are accounted for before the coach leaves.

PE Sessions and PPA Cover

HR Sports Academy PE sessions are designed to stimulate children, improve performance and allow schools to meet government demands, as they can be used as PPA cover.

We will work around your schools needs and requirements. Therefore, if you need a coach to teach a certain year or class for only 1 hour per week or if you would like us to organise a full programme of events which involves us covering all teacher PPA time then we can cater for both situations.

1. National curriculum sessions

These sessions will cover all aspects of the teaching spectrum. Our staff follow a scheme of work, which follows National Curriculum guidelines, covering the whole PE curriculum: (invasion games, striking and fielding games, net games, athletics and gymnastics) and specific skill such as throwing and catching, hand-eye co-ordination, balance and team work.

2. Health and fitness sessions

Our fitness sessions focus on increasing co-ordination, fitness, agility, speed and reactions. Sessions are aimed to stimulate children and improve performance. Children are provided with Personal Development Cards to record their progress i.e. how fast they have run, the amount of skips they can do, the number of speed bounces they can complete in a set time, how high they can jump etc.

Our service benefits your pupils in the following ways;

  • They can relate to fresh faces in their school
  • They discover new opportunities for fun and fitness
  • They learn the value of taking part in sport
  • They develop confidence and skills such as teamwork.
  • Utilising HR Sports Academy as an extra member of staff is successful and very cost effective.

Extended School

Breakfast club

Our breakfast clubs are a safe, stimulating place for children before school. Parents/carers may leave their children in the care of qualified sport coaches that provides activities and a light nutritious breakfast to get the children's energy focused on the day ahead.

We give the children cereals, toast or sandwiches with cheese, jam, chocolate spread, ham or marmite, a choice of fresh fruit and a choice of blackcurrant, apple, orange or water.

8.00am - 9.00am (at times to suit your school)

After school club

Our after school clubs are centred in helping children learn the basics of sports and have fun doing so. We offer multi-sport/skill sessions along with sport specific sessions.

"At the end of each month or each scheduled programme we consult students, teachers and parents. In addition, pupils gain certificates at the end of each term or scheduled programme (before and after school clubs only)"

3.30pm - 4.30/5.30pm (at times to suit your school)

Sports Day

HR Sports Academy coaches can organise your annual sports day event from start to finish and tailor the event to suit your school needs and aspirations.

1. Traditional Sports Days

Our Traditional Primary School Sports Day include activities where the emphasis is on fun rather than sporting prowess. For example the egg and spoon, sack, skipping and three legged race, obstacle courses tag of war etc.

Our Traditional Secondary School Sports Day include conventional track and field athletic sports.

2. Fit and Fun Sports Day

This unique programme teaches children and young people about the benefits and importance of being healthy and exercising through fun and interactive activities.

3. Sports Specific Day

Our sport specific day focus on one particular sport which allows your students to learn and develop all of the skills required for that sport in one day. Our coaches are able to deliver football, basketball, athletics, netball, tag rugby, badminton, tennis, cricket, gymnastics, dance, boccia, volleyball, rounders and cheerleading days.

Please note that some sports are seasonal as they require out door facilities. If you have a specific sport in mind which is not listed please contact HR Sports Academy.

Mentoring Programme

Our Mentoring Programme aims to help raise students aspirations, attainment, self-confidence and overall performance by linking them to successful adults from a range of socio-economic backgrounds and cultures. Our mentors are gifted listeners and have the ability to provide constructive and meaningful feedback.

How does it work?

  • The scheme is open to all year groups
  • Mentor travel to school to meet with students
  • The programme can run over a full academic year or cover selected terms
  • Sessions take place, ideally, once a week, and last between 1 and 1-½ hours
  • All our mentors receive continuous training and support.

At the end of the academic year we celebrate all the achievements over the year by holding a recognition event where students will receive a certificate for participating in the programme.

Types of mentoring:

  1. One to One mentoring
  2. One mentor: small group
  3. Two mentors: small group
